5 Social Data Startup to Look Forward To

It's still unclear exactly how Apple plans to use Topsy, the social media analytics firm the tech giant acquired on Monday for a reported $200 million. The possible theories are intriguing and numerous; speculation includes improvements to Siri, building social integration into Apple TV, and even the creation of an Apple search engine to rival Google on mobile devices.
Regardless of Apple's motivation, though, other companies that make money by analyzing social data such as public posts and tweets are taking away a major positive from the news: validation.

1. 140 Proof
San Francisco-based 140 Proof has created what it calls a Blended Interest Graph, a tool that targets consumers based on their social media posts and helps advertisers reach the appropriate audience. The company works with thousands of advertisers, including big names like Kraft, Chevy and Microsoft, to surface ads on the web and on mobile where consumers use their social IDs. (Think Tumblr and Wordpress blogs, and mobile apps that require a social login.)
"The real gold in social is this publicly available data that we call asymmetrical connections, or indications of interest," said CEO Jon Elvekrog. "Who you're following, what you've pinned, Tumblr blogs you've re-blogged. By harvesting that public information, that gives us a really good idea about what stuff you'd like to see more of."
140 Proof has raised $6.25 million since it was founded in 2010, but the company is already profitable, Elvekrog said.

2. DataSift

The other darling from this busy week, DataSift, announced a $42 million funding round on Tuesday, pushing the company's financing total over $70 million. Half of the employees in the company are engineers, Bailey said, and the new funding means DataSift will continue to hire aggressively.
Bailey is clearly optimistic about the future of social data analysis and even expects college students to join in on the fun; he predicts universities will soon offer social data MBAs.

3. Gnip

Gnip is the third and final U.S. company with access to the entire Twitter firehose, a valuable commodity as it allows access to every tweet sent around the world. (The other two with firehose access, Topsy and DataSift, were mentioned above.) But Twitter isn't the only sources of social data for Gnip; the company also pulls from Tumblr, Foursquare and WordPress, among others.
The company, which was founded in Boulder, Colo., in 2008, also provides Twitter archive data to the Library of Congress.

4. LeadSift

LeadSift is a small startup, even by this list's standards. That doesn't mean it can't churn out useful results for its customers, though. LeadSift uses social media to bring brands and retailers the perfect customers. If you tweet about upcoming plans to go car shopping, for example, LeadSift will see that and most likely send your information to its automotive clients ahead of time.
The San Francisco-based startup scours Facebook and Twitter for public posts to find what people are talking about and actually buys its Twitter data from DataSift. Its most popular verticals include auto sales, insurance sales and retail. LeadSift is planning a Series A round of funding in early 2014, according to Tukan Das, CEO of LeadSift.

5. Lithium Technologies

Another social startup based in San Francisco (surprise, surprise), Lithium helps its customers build their own social communities online, often as part of larger company websites. The move allows Lithium clients to better engage with fans and customers of the brand, control where the conversation happens and become an active participant without relying exclusively on external sites like Facebook or Twitter.
The company announced a "pre-IPO" round of financing in September, netting $50 million to bring Lithium's total fundraising over $150 million. There is no set timetable for the company's IPO, according to sources close to Lithium, but an IPO toward the back half of 2014 wouldn't be a surprise.

Facebook Will Let You Save Links to Read Later

Mark Zuckerberg knows that users could not be reading Facebook more in any given day. Whihc is why he decided to implement something that could make users read those fascinating links they migh thave been missed.

Worry not to sift through all the way to the bottom of your feeds, as Facebook will soon integrate  a "save for later" feature.
The concept first cropped up on a version of the Facebook app way back in 2012. In that iteration, you held your finger on a story to save it to a separate list. Now, users can access a a button with a bookmark icon they can press.
But the Facebook feature differs in significant ways. First of all, you can save more than just articles. Secondly, it allows you to do your later reading within Facebook.
Facebook has not yet officially anounced the date fo tis release and implementatino but surely, it can help out me who's quitem observant in Facebook using my Kata i2.

Play on Jar on a Bar!

One fine day, while a goldfish is happily gallivanting in the river with a friend, he is suddenly captured by a fishing net. Surprisingly, he finds himself trapped in a jar on top of a wide variety of structures made of wood, ice and other materials.
Jar on a Bar
Jar on a Bar (iOS)
Will the goldfish be able to get back to the river? Find out what will happen after the jump.
Jar on a Bar
If we scrutinize the app market, most things that are prominent there are the never-ending stream of puzzle games. Accordingly, there are enormous games that emerged constituting the law of Physics and has spread like wildfire over the past years. Chillingo, developer of apps, wasn’t an exception. They revamped and innovated the idea to produce its own physics removal sub-genre. With that, they came up with Jar on a Bar. Unlike Finger Physics, with its simple touch-to-remove interface, this game’s similar to Jenga which is about removing the pieces of each level’s puzzle. Ergo, this game probably might attract the puzzle fans alike with its dodgy physics that certainly stifle any broader appeal it may have.
Jar on a Bar is a fun Physics-based puzzler game that allows you to embark on a mission to save the goldfish from its perilous condition (remember the aforementioned tale?). Basically, you have to guide the goldfish stuck in its bowl to safely descend to the welcoming ground below, so that it can hop back to its habitat (the adjacent river) and be free.

Fish-tures

  • Simple, intuitive tap and swipe controls mean anyone can play.
  • Ingenious, head-scratching puzzles with multiple solutions.
  • Addictive and challenging gameplay, always time for one more go to get those stars!
  • Gorgeous artwork and comical animations—watch the fish get scared.
  • Power-ups to unlock including a shield and wings...never seen a flying fish?
  • Universal, works great on all devices.

The gameplay is very simple. You must get fishy to the river by removing the bars below the jar. Sounds easy right? Well not really, I tell you.

The objective of the game is to guide the fishbowl down to the bottom of the adjacent river by moving around the pieces of materials stacked below it. Moving one of the bars by swiping it left or right will have it respond in kind along with the fish bowl. You can slowly move pieces that are about to balance on top of it, or you may pull the pieces out quickly to minimize the movement above. It’s all up to you what course of action you are going to execute in this mind-boggling game.
But beware! You must always remember not to tip the jar too much or else, you won’t get those precious 3 stars. If the bowl tips on the way down, you lose water along with its corresponding points, which also determine the rating you’ll receive at the end of the stage. Worst scenario is if it happens that you break the jar then you’ll have to repeat that particular level.
In addition to earning stars, completing each level gives you the chance to attain seashells that can be used to purchase power-ups such as wings. However, such power-up can only be utilized one at a time in every level. While you don’t earn that much daily, you may purchase the shells via the internet.
As the game continues, new elements will be introduced like ice blocks that are tapped to break apart and false tufts of ground that’s bound to halt your progress. These pieces add to your strategy as they can work as a solution to get the fishy to the river or on the other hand, be the cause of other makeshift obstacles (such as ramps and barriers). This side effect allows you to line up the bowl over different bars before flinging away the one it’s positioned on. Given that, it will not just challenge your problem solving skills but your reflexes will be put to a test as well.

First and foremost, what I particularly like about the app is the scenic and relaxing idyllic backdrop. The unpredictability factor is also inherent in the game, which of course, is an initial formula that is imperative for most physics-based puzzler. However, it makes this particular app falter for the reason that it removes the overall enthrallment of the game. My other gripe is its oversensitiveness when it comes to your jar tilting a little bit where your scores get deduction instantly. Nonetheless, this app doesn’t offer much new elements to its sub-genre for it didn’t entirely change the gameplay all that much. Hence, it’s just a game we’ve played before.

I personally find Jar on a Bar a fascinating puzzler game to play. I don't know but there's something satisfyingly evil about yanking out the bottom pillar, removing the planks and watching the bar structure topple over until the fishbowl plummets to the ground. Strange as it seems, the game is certainly playable and offers enough entertainment, albeit it's limited to some noteworthy appeal.

Get yourself hooked and download the app on the iTunes AppStore for $0.99 now!

Weave Photos into Comics with Kabaam!

Ever wondered what real life would look like as a comic?
Well, how about turning your photos into a comic book with just a few swipes of your fingers?
No need to possess the power of a pen or a pencil, Kabaam is here to the rescue!

Gamua OG unveiled Kabaam, a revolutionary comic app that can transform your photos into a comic strip in just a heartbeat. The app's worth less than a gram of kryptonite and is valuable enough considering the fact that you can create your own world of Marvel heroes and other great superheroes.

- Shoot photos with camera or import them from your photo gallery or from Facebook.
- Create stories up to nine photos long and add all kinds of different comic elements to your photos: Titles, several different types of speech bubbles and overlays such as Wrooooooms!!! Snap! Sizzle! Boink! Twack! Splat! Phoo! and Swish!
- Manipulate the orientation of each comic element, its position, rotation and size.
- Share your masterpiece on Kabaam’s showroom (Kabaam.cc) and major social platforms which includes Google+, Facebook and Flickr.

Of course like any other superheroes, this app has some weaknesses and flaws. Since the photos automatically load into slightly rectangular boxes, users are restricted to change the orientation, shape or size of the comic boxes. The comic also will only look like a one long strip or stacked grid depending on how many images are added to each comic.

This fairly full-featured, zany app provides you enough means to squeeze your creative juices and thrill others with your fantastic tales. Other than that, it has the power to let your imagination take shape. Hence, give this app a try and you’ll surely never miss any action in your life.

Weave your photos into a story and make real life far more interesting with Kabaam!
Beam it to your phone now! Download the app on iTunes AppStore.

Wunderlist by 6Wunderkinder
Wunderlist by 6Wunderkinder is a free and easy to use task manager and to-do list organizer. This app is perfect for people who need to organize their tasks.
It can be utilized in different platforms. Not only is it working on Android, but  this app is also available for other devices such as the iPhone, iPad, PC, Mac, and BlackBerry PlayBook. This app not only gives convenience to its users, but it offers a great User Interface (UI) with customizable backgrounds.

Once you're done registering a free account, which you can do from the application itself, you're good to go!  Simply enter your task and any notes or your to-do lists, include a due date, set the reminder, and click save. You’re done! It's that easy.
Wunderlist by 6Wunderkinder
The first screen you'll see in this app is a dashboard of all of your lists. Within these lists, you can find the assigned tasks. While looking at the List screen, a number will prompt to indicate how many tasks you have assigned to it. You can easily sort your tasks by list, today, overdue, starred, and many more.
Oh, and did I mention why it is a well-rounded app? It can do seamless and automatic syncing across all devices. Now, that's really cool! And good news for the Apple subscribers, this app provides an option to use iOS 5's built-in Siri voice assistant to add tasks to your list via email.
Wunderlist App

Making lists and tasks is almost effortless with this app- it’s literally just a matter of typing and pressing enter, rinse and repeat. It also packs powerful features like cloud sync which is useful for its users. But despite being a user-friendly app, it’s not yet perfect. It lacks some of the features that help add to the mobility of the BlackBerry smartphone app- it doesn’t have the ability to share tasks with others nor rearrange the order in which tasks or lists appear.
Wunderlist App Free

Wunderlist is incredibly useful and is well put-together. You can always manage the same to-do list with any devices. You’ve also got nothing to lose since this app is absolutely free on different platforms!
So what are you waiting for? No need to add this app to your to-do list, get it now! Download links are below.

Paid Apps VS Free Apps

For both the iTunes App store and Android Google Play, making money from paid applications is becoming more difficult. All the more, it is quite a feat in the competitive world of app rankings if the app was able to be on top or the most in demand.
However, regardless of how well the app ranks on the charts, it doesn't guarantee higher sales especially for the paid applications.

Are users now spend less money on applications? According to the latest statistics from analytics companies such as App Annie Distimo, app revenues for Apple's App Store and Google Play continue to be on the rise. However, people nowadays opt to avail the in-app pruchases.Users think that rather than buying an app upfront, they prefer in-app purchase, or IAP that could unlock special features or extra levels, removes ads, adds additional stylistic themes and the like.
But uyes, it is appparent that ther are FREE apps out there that has the similar, or even better features than the paid ones. Another thing is that, there are growing numbers of developers or even hackers trying to make the paid apps for free.
Given that, there are mobile companies also who utilize the instant availability of apps on their devices. Kata, a Philippine and Hong kong based mobile brand comany has this so-called Fish Market. The pre-installed app on Kata devices allow its users to browse through a well-selected and exclusive apps and download them for a whopping price of free.

Basketball Stat Tracker: Stats Beyond Pen and Paper

I often ask myself why guys are so hooked in playing basketball.  More often than not, they take the game seriously that whenever they end up losing a game, they would wallow in pity. Yes, the latter happened to one of my friends and I'd most likely pat his back and say, "Man up bro, it's just a game" then he would look at me in a dazzling manner.
I know I don't have that athletic bone in me but whenever I watch a basketball match I often find myself gratified into it. Not to mention, I'm one of those on the bench who'll cheer for the team I'm rooting for and would scream my lungs out once  they've shot a goal.
Almost every individual knows how to play the sport but how I wish I could play it better or even just learn the simple dribbling skill or lay-up, but no, it's just not meant for me. Perhaps I'm more of a runner-type of person since I oftentimes get sort of compliments that I walk too fast! I'm actually unaware of it, maybe it's just innate in me.
Anyway, I know most of you watch the annual NBA match. I myself watch the prestigious game and whenever I witness well maneuvered alley hoops and artistic dunks, I can't help but get jaw dropped. You don't get that same exhilarating feeling from other sports like badminton and chess, don't you?
basketball-stat-tracker
Everybody grew up with the popular game. Who wouldn't know Hanamichi Sakuragi of "Slam Dunk"? Who wouldn't recognize Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant? These dudes didn't fail to drive the audience off their seats whenever they shoot hoops. For some, basketball might be considered as a good pastime to get their mind off things but for many others, it can be seen as a passion. Indeed,  basketball solidified its name almost all over the globe.
If you're an aspiring basketball player, learning the basketball fundamentals isn't just enough. You must also equip yourself with proper training and more importantly, you must be able to monitor your performance.
Now, get yourself ready boys and girls, let me be your coach and teach you how to expand your arsenal of tricks just like a professional basketball player.
basketball stat trackerTo keep track of your players' performances and monitor stats of each player in a basketball game, simply avail this handy app that I'll be introducing to you. Get rid of the traditional pen and paper and use Basketball Stat Tracker instead in your Android device. This app developed by Hachisoft Corporation provides an interface for real-time basketball stat tracking with a bevy of following features:
Track your Favorite Teams
‣ Record stats for one player, an entire team, or both teams

‣ Intuitive recording of +/-, points, rebounds, offensive rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, deflections, turnovers and fouls
‣ Track games on official courts (HS, JHS, NCAA, WNCAA, NBA, WNBA, FIBA, FIBA 2009)
‣ Manage and save team and player data for quick starting future games
Game Stats at Your Fingertips
‣ On screen scoreboard provides live game score
‣ On screen stat feed lists game stats in consecutive order
‣ Undo events at any time using the stat feed list
‣ Easy drill-down of stats and shots by team, game & player
‣ Stat and shot automatically compiled for quick lookup by quarters and/or halves
Keep Fans in the Loop
‣ Share score reports on social media or via email
‣ Email box scores and Shot Charts
‣ Easily create data exports for Maxpreps.com
Designed for Usability
‣ No need to keep papers organized; stats and Shot Charts are always with you on your Android device
‣ Clean design means Basketball Stat Tracker is both powerful and a joy to use
‣ Optimized for use on phone, 7” and 10” tablets
basketball-stat-tracker basketball-stat-tracker-android
This app is perfect for teams, managers, coaches, statistians, and others who would like to track their team's and players' statistics. To add and start a game, select your preferred "Home" team and "Away" team. Put in the "Contest Location" and choose what type of contest it is. You can also select your court type that has a distinguished size. Afterwards, you can then begin with the game. If ever you forgot to put your starters, you may still add them.
To create a new team, select "Manage Teams" then encode the name of the team, let's say Wild Cats (remember High School Musical?), and the mascot. Once you're done, you can add your players to your roasters and put necessary information such as their name and jersey number then select starters. To delete a player or a team, you basically have to swipe to the left and tap delete.
This app simply allows you to have a quick look on how players have performed in games you've tracked. You can also view all their stats over the course of a season. You may email box scores and shot charts to players so that they can track their performance and determine which skills to improve. Other than that, you can compile scouting reports in mere seconds just by utilizing the stat filters and even acquire all recorded stats from the opposing players and teams.
But of course, a basketball match won't be complete without the fans of your team. With this app, you're not the only one who's updated but as well as the avid supporters of your team. If you want to keep the fans in the loop, you may share the game scoreboard and statistics via social networks, email or text message during or after a match. And since it an offical MaxPreps partner, it also supports its exports.

All Stats At Your Fingertips

With it's user-friendly interface, you can easily keep up with a fast paced basketball game. Not only that, it's well-designed for quick entries and ensures accuracy as box scores often are updated, thus you can have an instant overview of stats at all times. The stat entry history on the other hand, lets you quickly undo erroneous entries. But the icing on the cake of this app is that game scoreboard updates along with the track of the game, making it easy to reconcile your recorded stats with the scoreboard.
Some of my gripes though are that it doesn't have a time tracker and an option to transfer information between devices. If it will be updated then I guess, this app's going to be perfect.
basketball-stat-tracker-app
Basketball Stat Tracker is a great solution to your cluttered pile of paper stats. Basketball data can be comprehensive and sophisticated but this one definitely made it not overly complex but simple. Thus, even without the use of traditional stat book,  one can easily track and analyze all game stats. This app actually integrates and expands on the shot tracking interface of Hachisoft’s other basketball app, Basketball Shot Chart, including additional stat tracking for assists, rebounds, turnovers, steals and even fouls.
This app has been available on Google Play for $3.99. Download it now and keep your basketball stats more organized.
Now, are you ready to be the next Jeremy Lim?

Fret not, here are some hidden functions to look forward to.

Listen to Eargasmic Music with Divoom Speaker

Are you fond of music? Do you want to bust a groove while playing that famous “Wrecking Ball” song of Miley Cyrus? Or would you like to croon along with your favorite artist such as Taylor Swift or Katy Perry? Whatever genre or style you prefer; music certainly has been an essential part of every person’s life.

Most of the time, whenever we listen to music, we are whisked back to the emotions we felt at a particular moment like a serene wedding, an awful breakup, and among others. Indeed, the mere connection it gives us is usually imprinted in our hearts and minds.

Given that, I assume that you have your own set of music that you want to be played in an audio device that will pump up your listening experience. Ergo, if you want something that would bring out that perfect pitch to those songs that make you nostalgic, let me recommend a portable audio device that would totally suit your needs.

I’ve rummaged the best speakers on the market and what truly stands out is the Divoom speaker. This actually can deliver high quality sound that is aesthetically pleasing to your ears. It boasts clear and crisp audio that any catchy song played with it will surely stick in your head.

To use it, you actually just have to connect it to your device. Plug it and play the music or video, as simple as that. I tried it with my Kata FishTab 3 to watch a James Bond movie and I was astounded with how it amplified the sound effects through the incredible bass and clarity it produced. The good thing about it also is that it fits the tablet very well and I commend its built-in cradle that allows you to rest your device. Moreover, it has a sleek and travel-friendly design which makes it possible to carry it around wherever you go.

Divoom speaker is an ideal accessory to take pleasure in listening to music, video chatting and movie –watching without having to wear earphones. It simply is well worth the price and personally, I won’t mind investing on this highly dependable speaker.
